Alex Barlow has devoted his practice to complex litigation on behalf of victims. Alex considers himself fortunate to have tried cases on behalf of plaintiffs as diverse as working men who developed deadly cancers from toxic exposures to Fortune 500 companies. Currently, his specific areas of focus include pharmaceutical litigation on behalf of individual victims and governmental entities, catastrophic injury cases, insurance cases on behalf of wronged insureds, institutional child abuse cases, and commercial litigation.
During his career Alex has won verdicts on behalf of his clients in the areas of toxic tort, institutional abuse and commercial litigation. Recently, Alex has focused on the growing litigation resulting from the sub-prime lending crisis. He is currently filing and investigating cases on behalf of borrowers and institutions adversely affected by the financial calamity. For example, he is national counsel in charge of overseeing the prosecution of appraisal fraud and negligence claims for a global real estate management and investment firm.
In the area of first-party insurance litigation, Alex was recently hired as trial counsel by another firm for numerous bad-faith insurance cases arising from the catastrophic hail and tornado storms that hit Oklahoma City in the late summer of 2010.
In pharmaceutical litigation, Mr. Barlow has previously represented the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (Oklahoma Medicaid) and the Oklahoma State Employees and Educators Group Insurance Board in the Vioxx litigation against Merck. He is currently representing individual plaintiffs in various pharmaceutical and medical device cases.
Mr. Barlow's most interesting and challenging pro bono work was facilitating the return of two children to their mother in the United States and the restoration of her parental visitation rights following her husband absconding with the children to Malaysia for a period of five years in contravention of court orders.
Alex is a member of the State Bars of Texas, Mississippi and Oklahoma. He is a current member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice and Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. He is a member of the Board of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and also sits on its continuing legal education committee.
He earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree from the University of Texas as a participant in the prestigious Plan II honors program and his J.D. with honors from The University of Texas School of Law. In law school he was the recipient of the George E. Seay Endowed Presidential Scholarship and was a member of the Order of the Coif, a national honorary society for law school students.
